Youth Sports Music Video trailers critique

All I have is a PD170, Liquid Edition and Combustion, so I'm sure quality is not what this forum is used to. And suggestions on equipment are certainly welcome in addition to critique on the trailers themselves. As you can see, still have a lot to learn about higher skill post and shooting techniques, which is why I'm nervous about posting these...but desire to get better through professional critique. Maybe some of you can show these to your kids and see what they think, too?

Mike,

Wow, that is good fun! It looks like you have the timing/speed changing thing down! Try to get a few different looks, ie. change the camera angle. Your basic ideas are great, keep shooting and editing as much as possible. You have a great opportunity to start young and really learn from the ground up. If you are serious about this as a possible career, you may want to take a shorter edited version of these to a local production house and show them that you are keen to learn and that you have tons of potential...I'd hire you for odd jobs!

Good luck, keep us posted,
Cheers
Jim

Thanks so much Jim! You're validation will give me courage to seek new learning opportunities.

Oddly enough, Las Cruces New Mexico doesn't provide much in the way of quality video production houses...just little ones that do the cheesy "Come see me, the King of Mattresses and Furniture". My hope is to find a productio house that uses higher end stuff that I can start at the ground floor in and work my way up in talent with those systems. After somewhat mastering Pinnacle Liquid, all the others (like Vegas, FCP, etc) seem boring. Would love to begin employment with houses that do Discreet Smoke/Fire type of work.

Anyway, thanks so much for your kind words...Can't wait to get to a point where I can express my visions like Emeril does with his cooking...BAM!

Overall, shows some great, natural use of pacing and timing, nice...On the shooting, I would suggest maybe try to get some super close-ups, and maybe capture more reactions and the like to intercut with all the wide and Med WIde shots, I would also try to weave in a story, maybe get the kids, parents, coaches thoughts before and after the game, For example: After you know that you captured a great shot of an exciting play...go back to that player as soon as possible and have him give his point of view, as if he were telling it to his Dad that was not there, capture his excitment...Then in the edit you can pick small sound bites and weave in some Natural sound like the coach yelling at his team and the like. For me I wanted to know more about what was going on, more texture...Gives you another dimension to build more excitment.

Just a thought
Matt
