2004 Design Reel

OK, I am doing an update on my reel and want some feedback on which pieces work and which are garbage......

Maybe some advice on cutting it together would be good too..... I am trying to decide to go with the fast cuts that cut quick to the music and jump around and back and forth, or the style of cuts, that i have now, where you see a large section of a piece then it moves to another.......

Be as truthful as you want to be!!!!!!!!

What's to critique, man? This is excellent. Creativity and flow. I felt all of that. Great job. I'm trying to get to this level, What apps do you use?

Cool,

I'm trying to incorporate Combustion 3 more into my workflow on the G5 and with FCP HD. After NAB I think I'm going to go ahead and make the investment in Automatic Duck Pro Import for CB. Do you use Combustion on the MAC?

Yes I do. I have used it on both systems, but I personally prefer Mac cause I have been using it for so long.

Hey,

Just to let you know, I'm having problems with your reel. I'm on a PC, and all I get is a white screen with audio. However, I can view it fine on my Mac. It might be a codec issue.

Nice work! My only criticism is that certain pieces seem to hang too long, especially your title card. Bring us in with a bang and tear loose!

Hi Chris:

Your asking for advice on your reel is like Donald Trump asking for advice on Real Estate. Absolutely SMOKIN' reel. Say Hi to Jayse.

Yeah, two thumbs up from me, it was paced well, nice mix. Really nothing there to complain about. Your style is very "in" at the moment, maybe thats a double edged sword. Nothing I haven't seen before, but then this is what you need to do. We gotta work at the end of the day, so I don't make that as a critisism. In the end you have a great design eye. Everything frame has a beautiful quality to it.
Top stuff mate, its in my inspiration folder for the days that ellude me or when I want to shoot abit higher on quality. :)

Wow. Nice work. As far as the editing goes, I like how it is, with seeing long portions of the piece. I think you have enough going on that the viewer won't get bored with the longer cuts. I suspect it would be a little overwhelming to the eye if you used faster cuts.
But again, very nice job.

Good work. If you want some suggestions I would start with the intro it is neat but a bit lame no reason for the function. A line comes in and splits the bkgd apart and then some blurry stuff with an arrow and then we are back out....em. Why, find more meaning in it plus it is a bit long. The reel all shares the same pace slow things happen then something else happens. I would suggest some quicker cuts or faster paced pieces. Also the basketball slam thing...dont know what that is it looks kinda neat but seems out of place, dont like it. Also you are very stylized which somebody said is a double edged sword and they are right. If I was looking for that style I would call you but for anything else I wouldnt think you could do it. The car part needs to have some of the timing worked out the pieces just sort of blink here and there step it up a level. Also it looks like you have been copying Justin Harder. Which is not bad, as long as you take his ideas and make them your own.

You have some great skills...just my 2 cents.
