How to make clipping mask font? Motion 5

Ok, so what I want to do is create a lower third for a project i'm doing. this is what i want it to look like..

a black rectangle, with font on top of it. but instead of the font being white, the font is transparent to where you can see through to the video behind it. so it basically is masking the black rectangle to cut a whole in the black rectangle in the shape of the font.

basically i want to copy this...

http://www.apple.com/finalcutpro/software-update.html

watch the video 'Watch the Multicam Demo Video' at 0:23

it's a black rectangle for the lower third with text over it that you can see though to the background video.

How can i accomplish this in Motion 5?

Two different ways:

1) With the text layer above the black shape layer, apply the Stencil Alpha blend mode to the text layer.

or

2) Apply an Image Mask to the shape layer, add the text to the well in the HUD, and invert the mask.

Great!

The first one didn't work. That just turned my whole screen black.

The second one worked perfectly. Thanks a ton!
