Has anybody find a way to convert AI shapes or paths into motion's 5 shapes?
I know it was an script for an older version of Motion, but doesn't seem to be working with Motion 5

I would just use the script in Motion 4, then bring the shape into Motion 5.

Thanks Mark. Unfortunately, i'm a new adopter, so i only have Motion 5.
When I open the .motn archive generated by the script i only get a blank file.
In any case i hope than someone create a new script or find an easy method to import shapes from AI
(I'm creating a write-on effect of lines "drawing" the image of a building and i'm finding it difficult to draw the shapes with the Motion vector tools)

Javier, the script generates a shape object, not a Motion project file. Try importing it into Motion 5.

hmmm. The script i'm using is:
http://www.motionsmarts.com/downloads.html
and it generates a .motn file.
When i try to import it as a shape in Motion 5, it dont let me open it.
(and if i open it as a motion project, is blank)

Anyway, thanks for your help Mark :)

Works perfectly for me, I just tested it. Shows up as a shape in the File Browser in Motion 5.

Motion can import a Illustrator file as .ai or .pdf, then you turn off fixed resolution in order to scale to any size you like with no loss of resolution.

You can also turn any Illustrator path into a Motion shape object:

Wow Mark! You did it again. Awesome tutorials. They really came in handy for me today! I'm animating a tree I drew in AI using Motion and was wondering how I'd go from one to the other. I used to use PS as an intermediate and had no idea I could uncheck the fixed res box on a PS file. I thought that was just for PDFs. Heck, now I don't have to thanks to the plugin. I learn so much with your tuts!

I still refer back to your Apple Pro Training book on Motion 4.

Thanks for all you do (free and for profit!).

Um - you can't just uncheck "fixed resolution" on a PSD file - that will only work with a vector file like a .ai or .pdf saved from Illustrator. How did I give the impression it would work on a Photoshop file?

I came to this thread via a google search. My question relates, so hope it's alright to add it here, rather than to a new thread. I have used the motionsmarts.com script in the past to convert Illustrator paths to Motion shapes. However, at this time, I no longer have access to Illustrator. I do have Vectordesigner. Are there any alternate means in which an outline of an object can be converted to a Motion shape, so that it can then be treated with Motion's shape behaviors?

I just made an account after years of lurking to say THANK YOU MARK! You are awesome and your video from 2009 just helped me finish a logo animation the way I needed to. I really appreciate your help and the great content!

Hi Mark,

Using the script you are hosting, the export appears to have worked successfully from Illustrator (file 73kb). However, I have been trying to import the shape (ship.motn) into Motion 5. Have tried dragging it into the Shapes Library, Content pane, to a layer, .. anywhere.... even opening it in a new project, but nothing appearing.

What is the right way to get the shape into Motion5?

Thanks,
Geoff
