Scrolling text...
on Mar 23, 2011 at 6:13:58 pm

Hi,

I need some text to scroll but I need it to be confined to one area on the canvas and I dont want it scrolling from off the screen to the top of the screen. i.e keep it within a drop zone or a masked area.

Im building a HUD and need transmission type text to type on and move up a line at a time and keep writing till, as one new line appears and top line disappears. See what Im trying to say?

Any suggestions are most welcome!!

Place your text in a group, lets call the group "master group". Add the Scroll Text behavior to the master group...not the text. Flatten the Master group by going to the group tab (F4) and checking the flatten check box. Create another group and place your master group inside of that group. Go to it's group tab and check the fixed resolution check box. Add a mask and if you want feather the edge. Hope this makes sense and best of luck.

I don't think that the look he's trying to accomplish and I've been trying and I'm close but not quite.

I made lines of text and applied the type on behavior to it and also a sequence text behavior with the position parameter added. I made my Y position equal to the point size (in the negative direction) and set the spread to 0. Also set the unit size to Line.

This makes the whole line scroll up like what I think he's looking for.

I was also playing around with using the paragraph layout method and setting the margins but that's not quite right either.

I think the look he trying to accomplish is a line types on and when it gets to the end, the next line types on and the first line jumps up one line but in an area that's only big enough for like 4 lines. Then when that area is filled up, the first line disappears from the top and the lines keep jumping up... like it's being typed on a typewriter.
