Yet another Motion crashing issue
I see I'm not the only one in the situation, so I'm hoping one of you can help me. I've been using Motion for a few months without any issue. The app was super stable even under quite a bit of presure (lots of layers and effects). And all of a sudden, it decided the morning to crash in the first seconds of starting up... Sometimes as soon as it loads the project, sometimes after a few seconds...
Here is the crash report, I'm not sure how to read it to try and fix the issue...
It is common problem with Motion. Delete the preferences and restate the program, you should be fine. Preferences are situated in your home folder/library/preferences. Then locate preferences for .motion there are two of them. There is no need to paste a stash report that dies not help. G
Ouch, it didn't work (the files are "com.apple.motion.LSSharedFileList.plist" and "com.apple.motion.plist", right?) :(
Thanks for your help though, that's one thing to cross on the list of possible issues...
What do you mean by your last sentence? That the error report wouldn't help?
Well it is always a good starting point whenever you have a problem with motion. have you tried rendering or working on any other file that you have. Try doing this please. If you continue to have a problem then open the project that is problematic then select all the groups layers etc from that project, create a new project (file/new) than paste from the problematic one to new project. Ten save it, see if this fixes the issue. If not let me know....
Great idea, I will do that tonight. I need to do the "copy" part pretty quickly before it crashes though, we'll see...
Thanks a lot!
Another thing you need to know is that you have a version of that document you are working on in home folder/documents/Motion Documents.
Now Motion saves periodically all the files you are working on. So, the idea is to find the version that works, this would also mean that you have to redo some of the stuff that is missing from the final version.
Good luck and let me know what is happening please. Lets see if we can fix your issue...
Alright, that's really nice to know (I was wondering about it). Ok, so I dumped the pref files, started a NEW document, from there, started my work document. It loaded, crashed a few times but not always, which made it possible to render and get my thing done. Sooooo, I don't think it's very stable, but it worked for now...
Thanks really a lot for your help!
Copy all from corrupted document to a new one.
[Lucien Samary] "What do you mean by your last sentence? That the error report wouldn't help?"
Those error reports are only really useful for Apple's own programmers. They don't help mere mortals like us fix problems ;)
Oh yes, I realized afterwards ;)
