animating an insect crawling...

i don't use Motion much for animation stuff, but i was hoping to try it to take a small image of a bug (a bed bug here) and have it "crawl" around on a bed. it will stay very tiny in the frame, no huge closeups or anything, so if any of you have done something like that with a Motion behavior or similar, let me know. in the meantime, i'll click around in Motion and see what i can come up with.

thanks for helping out a bonehead!

Do you need to make its legs move or do you just want to animate its movement along a path?

I would say the easy way is to put your object on the canvas.

Then use a Paint Stroke tool to draw the path you want the object to take.

Then add a Behavior Motion - Path to object you want to animate.

Under the Behaviors tab in inspector set the Path Shape to GEOMETRY.

Then Drag the Paint Stroke of the path to the Well that pops up under the motion path behavior (the big blank rectangle).

Then you might also want to add a Snap Alignment to Motion Behavior as well so the bug "turns" with the path.

Fiddle around with the parameters till you get somethign you like.

I just did a quick and easy animation on one of the Ants from motion to test it out and it seemed to work reasonably well for the little effort I put in.

Yep... exactly what Eric just said. Make sure that the image of your bug faces to the right or Snap Alignment to motion will have him crawling sideways.

You can also add a Wriggle Shape behavior to the paint stroke layer and dial the amount way down. This will give it a more buggy crawly look.

There's a pre-animated Ant in the Motion Library. Might work for your needs.
