Good Stills Animation Tutorial

I know it's out there, but I just can't find it.

I'm trying to teach myself Motion, as I'm sure so many have before me, by applying it the job at hand. With the help of folks here, I have successfully made lower third templates. Now I'm trying to learn how to make graceful, precisely timed moves on photos. The Ease In and Ease Out settings in FCP have never worked to my satisfaction. I'm the first to admit that's very possibly user error, but I have yet to find a satisfactory (and by 'satisfactory' I mean suited to my pea-sized brain) explanation as to how to work with them.

So: Motion. Does anyone know of a nice tutorial that covers this topic? Here's just one example (there are others) of what I can't make work.

I'd like to start fairly tight on the guy at the far right of the frame, pull out at a constant rate and then ease in to a more or less full shot of the entire picture and sit there for several seconds. I would like the guy on the right to never leave the frame and I would like to never overreach beyond frame right.

This is typical of the sort of move I'd like to do, but I fear I have to understand everything about Motion before I can achieve this. I know someone has produced a wonderful QT with everything I need. Can anyone tell me where the little bugger is hidden?

Thanks,

Martin

Take a look at this tutorial created by Mark Spencer: http://www.rippletraining.com/movies/Free%20Downloads/motion_kburns_redux_9...
Best of luck.

Martin,

I highly recommend the free Pan & Zoom plugin from Noise Industries. I use it all the time on broadcast projects and the quadratic in/out acceleration is superb.

Here is a quick tutorial too:-

Thanks Peter. I just watched the tutorial and I'll definitely try this out.

I'm assuming by "quadratic in/out acceleration," you mean an algorithm that keeps long zooms from appearing to accelerate or decelerate? I've always found this to be one of the challenges with software-based motion control.

Martin,

The quadratic in/out gives a really nice acceleration/deceleration on moves, a bit like the iPhone ballistics.

Downloaded, installed, tested, celebrating. Thanks Peter, Pan and Zoom works beautifully thus far (I'm the king of finding what an app or plugin can't do). I'm gonna have to find something to spend money on at FXFactory, it's so good.

REally appreciate the help,

Martin
