If I purchase a 3d object from a third party vendor, what file type is supported by motion 4 (i.e. .max or .obj)? I need to make a livingroom scene and have to get a 3d couch. Please let me know, Thanks!

Motion does not support any 3D objects formats.

You can use Zaxwerk's ProAnimator FX to import 3D objects. It should import:

FBX Animation (.fbx)
Maya/Wavefront (.obj)
3D Studio Models (.3ds)
Lightwave Models (.lwo)
Electric Image Models (.fac)
Cinema 4D Models (.c4d)
Autocad Models (.dxf)

I've never done this before, but Zaxwerks offers a free trial so you can see if this will work for you.

Stephen, where do you see that ProAnimator FX can import 3D models? I don't see anything in the interface that allows you to do that, nor do I see anything on the website?

Mark,
In the Filters section, click on the "Click to Edit" button so you can get into ProAnimator's interface. Then click on "Object". Click on "Import 3D Model..."

To get the list of acceptable files I clicked on Enable and it showed the list I posted above.

Well I'll be darned - right you are, Stephen, I did not know that. However, I cannot get it to import any Cinema4D scene I create, even if exported as a different format. I suspect it does not support version 11.5, and I don't see a way to save as an older version. Nice to know, though - would be interesting if anyone has had any success with this.

Steve is correct. You can import lots of different file formats via pro Animator. I have done it before. Motion however does not support import of 3d Files. get the plugin form Zaxwerks. Load the plugin Pro animator then select new project and use OBJECT menu then at the bottom select import 3d object.
