Curl an image in 3D space from the XY plane - Motion 4

Hi,

I'm trying to find a way to take an image/video, and curl it in 3d space - essentially wrapping the image to the inside of a hollow cylinder. I've tried playing around with all the standard filters and they all seem to just alter the image when viewed from straight on but are always flat viewed from the side....

I've attached a video of my project so far, which is 24 hexagonal rings of multiple dropzones that the camera flies through - I'm tring to bulge out the center of each dropzone so the ring shape will be a smooth circle instead of a hexagon

also I should point out that this is for a Motion class project, so a solution involving After Effects or another program wont help me here.

Motion is not true 3D- objects can move in 3D space but they have no z depth.

bummer, I was afraid that would be the case... is there any Motion 4 plugin that might help bend the objects this way, or atleast let me remap XY space from Cartesian to Polar coordinates so that all points of the dropzones would remain r distance from the center?

Thanks for the Help

Nope if you want true 3D get a 3D program like Maya, C4D, LightWave, etc...

Well, it is possible to bend the shape in Apple Motion. Although you will need a third party plugin Boris Continuum 6. This plugin have some amazing tools and filters. A particular set of filters from Boris 6 you need are called BCC 3d Objects, they have built in deformers and dynamics, it is scary to see true 3d in Motion. See my review here: http://embryo.me.uk/wp/2009/09/06/review-of-boris-continiuum-6/
