Trying to create an animated ribbon
on Feb 10, 2009 at 12:38:27 pm

Hi! I'm a newbie poster, breaking my duck after much lurking and reading! hooray, etc...

OK, onward.

I've just started using motion (after years of editing & some Discreet Smoke work) and have struck a problem.

I am trying to create an animated ribbon with some text on it.

Here's an image of what I have:

The line is a path that wants to be the path along which the ribbon scrolls/is revealed.

Under that is a gradient filled shape of a flat ribbon

Under that is a TIF file of a ribbon I created in Photoshop.

2 questions:

1, why does my gradient:
only display in the right half of the top ribbon shape?

2, how do I have the ribbon reveal along the path at the top?
Do I need to do it with a replicator? I can't quite get my head round the concept!

It wants to end up looking a bit like this:

All thoughts gratefully received!

Not one response, unfortunately...

I didn't think it was that tough of a question.

Oh well...

Philip, were you ever able to do this animation. I have a similar project with a similar problem... I don't have Mograph or Trapcode, my results in AE aren't satidfactory (yet)... so this was my next area...

I just found this out:
make a slice of your ribbon 1 px in lenght
create a particle emitter from that slice
particle emitto to point
crank up the birth rate
set speed of the cell controls to zero
add motion path behaviour to the particle emittor
selct your bezier in the motionpath behavior
and that's it.

-ps sorry for my bad english and for my short explination
I have to finish my project :)
