How to remove black border/frame from keyed layer
on Aug 6, 2008 at 12:58:48 pm

Hi,

I am currently working on a scene which involves layered still images and also some footage of a person shot in front of green screen which I have since keyed out using Motion's Blue/Green Screen filter - which is placed in the foreground of the 3D 'space'. The problem I'm having is that there appears to be a sort of 'dancing' black edge which outlines the entire frame of the keyed layer. If for example I use the crop tool to say remove the outer left/right areas of the layer, the black outline simply changes shape to match the new cropped shape of the layer.

Is there a simple way to get rid of this?

Cheers

Try the mask tool on the keyed clip. Hope this helps.

No idea what you mean by that last part.
Black edges around a keyed source are usually simply alpha interpretation settings for the layer. Change yours.
did you prerender the greenscreen key? Nest it?

Draw a bezier mask around the shot to remove the black areas. It's called a garbage matte in old-school compositing terms.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies. After trying the first two, I was recommended to install the software update (3.0.2) then - magically - problem solved. Weird, but good.

:)
