Motion 3 seems blurrier than Motion 2
on Jul 18, 2008 at 2:15:29 pm

Hi,

I have a project that I am using motion's particle generators for. The particles are picked from random frames of a quicktime movie with an Alpha channel. I originally created my motion project in Motion 2, but we recently upgraded both my computer and Final Cut Studio, and so now I am using Motion 3. The problem is, that my particles which looked crisp in Motion 2, now look blurry in Motion 3. I have made sure motion blur is off. (They still look even blurrier with it on). The particles are pieces of text and are not moving very fast, so I really don't want them looking blurry.

Any ideas?

-Matt

Actually the problem seems to be with the replicator particles, not the particle emitter. Emitter particles are still crisp. Here are two stills, one from a Lossless Animation export out of Motion 3, the other from a Lossless export out of Motion 2 that I did before the upgrade.

Hmm are you sure you're exporting with full render quality/bit depth in your project settings?

Yep, the replicator seems to work differently between Motion 3 from Motion 2. Not only does Motion 3 look softer, the spinning wheel of lines in the center of the logo (that I got by animating a replicator offset) moves differently between Motion3 and Motion2 as well. I opened a copy of the project on an older machine in Motion 2, and it plays and renders fine. So for now, I am using an old dual processor G5 instead of my fancy 8 core intel to render these components....
