File Browser/Inspector is stuck
on May 15, 2008 at 8:40:42 am

Hi,

After having Motion up on my computer for only a short time I 'lost' the File Browser/Inspector, etc panel and I can't get it back. I've been resorting to using a locked inspector but that is not very user friendly. Do I need to reinstall?

Any input would be appreciated.

You may have accidentally hit the Command and 1 keys. What happens when you hit the Command and 1 keys?

Blast, it was worth a try. Uninstalling applications can be very difficult. Apple’s official document on how to uninstall compressor is super long. I tried to dig up Motions but it appears to be no longer available. I found this application that will do the job. I’ve never used it…so if you do end up using it let me know how it does. Hope this helps.

hey whats appzapper I have the same thing
I was just gonna add some smoke to follow the motion tracker and
then all of a sudden the program crashed. I tried to load up motion again and the stupid thing doesn't load file browser.

Is it like final cut pro where you have to remove a few things to get factory settings? or do you have to remove software and reinstall.
please help me

If I knew how to use this thing i wouldn't ask

AppZapper and FCS Remover remove the whole program. They’re not like FCP Rescue were they only remove your Final Cut Pro preferences. Looks like we need a Motion Rescue program.

Hey,

Appzapper can be found at http://www.appzapper.com/. It will unintall motion and then you can start with the FCP install disc. Installer will automatically know that Motion needs to be installed and will guide you through the process.

Hope this helps.

Just a silly idea, but this happens all the time with me when my boss (with dual 23" cinema displays) starts a project and I need to take over (with 19"NEC displays). Have you tried restoring the default screen layout? Just incase, like you said, the pallet got moved off your screen.

Just an idea ;-)

There is a MUCH easier way to fix this problem than deleting and reinstalling Motion. All you need to do is delete the user plist file (thanks to the Apple's Motion boards for this info):

From Finder press Shift/Command/H to go to your user account home folder.

From your user account home folder go to Library/Preferences/com.apple.motion.plist

I urge people to fix this problem using the 5 second fix before going to the trouble of deleting and reinstalling Motion.

Brilliant solution and it worked!

Now, why did it disappear to begin with and what did I do?
