I have a short clip where an actor is holding a bullet in his hand in a fist, with the contact plate sticking out the bottom. It's a close-up shot, and the bullet slams down onto a sharp piece of metal. The impact ignites the bullet. (I know that in terms of physics, it doesn't make sense, but that's part of the point.)
I can't seem to figure out a good way to make sparks. When the bullet makes contact with the metal shard, I need some sparks to fly out. Part of the problem is that the shot is so close up, and part of the problem is that I'm still using Final Cut 5.0 and the version of Motion that came with it, and have no way of updating in the near future. But aside from that, everything I've tried looks amateurish and tacked on.
Has anyone had to do this before? I've tried finding tutorials on Google, and keep coming up empty-handed.
