stuttering film frame effects
on Mar 7, 2007 at 10:50:04 am

i've seen this effect used a few different times and every time i've seen it, the look of it is exactly the same, which leads me to believe that it might be a standard effect. i know you can get different film fx clips pulled from actual 8mm, and 16mm film, but what i'd like to know is how to integrate my clip with the film fx and get that "wavy", "stuttering" look.

heck...i'm not even sure what app this was done in, but motion seems like a good place to start asking.

here's an example of it being used in a music video.

Looks like they used distortion filters to offset pixels, blurred and warped pixels, cropped the image, and used various composite modes to superimpose frame edges and film effects.

If you have a video clip that you want to emulate, study it frame by frame.
