New tutorial on lightwraps
on Aug 1, 2006 at 11:42:19 pm

Heya,

There is a new tutorial up about using Image Masks to achieve a lightwrap effect: http://www.motionsmarts.com/tutorials.html

Feedback (typos, missed profanity, etc) is appreciated.

Thanks!

Pretty cool, man. The only problem I see is that in your tutorial you say to apply the color correction to the beach layer, when in reality it should be applied to the hand layer.

Doh! Thanks for spotting this. Once again, paste-bombs strike at 2 a.m. Fixed that.

Otherwise, it's a cool tutorial. I have a big green screen project that I am in the process of posting, and this might come in handy.

Thanks!

Jeremy

What if you're subject is moving from one side of the screen to the next? Will those masks still work with moving footage?

Heya,

Because the masks are Image Masks and are based on the alpha of the foreground element, they will always fit. So, if you had some text flying across, or an actor walking, etc, it would just work.

What a stupid question I just asked! Sorry about that guys.

Anyway, I just ran through the tutorial with stock footage. Wow, does a great job, but the stock footage is so nappy, that it still doesn't give a very good key. BUT having used your steps, it's a lot better than it would have been.
