on apples website for motion it says you can import your motion projects into after effects. what do i need to do to make that happen? is the only answer to buy automatic duck?

You can import the project as a QuickTime movie with the alpha channel set to Premultiply with Black.

Heya,

Just to clarify Jim's post: When Motion is installed on a system, Quicktime can read a Motion project as if it were a rendered movie. It also allows AE to import a Motion project as if it were a Quicktime, and you can still make changes to the project in Motion and see them reflected in AE.

but after effects wont recognize the motion project as an importable file. it looks liek the only way for me to get my cuts and clips out of final cut pro to after effects is to buy automatic duck

Assuming you are using Motion 2 and AE 6.5 or 7:

In the Import window, make sure to select ALL FILES (not the default RECOMMENDED FILES) and specify QuickTime Movie as the format. Otherwise it will not allow access to the Motion project files.
