Has anyone used this

http://dvgarage.com/prod/prod.php?prod=dvmatteb&sub=features plug-in? We're looking for a keyer that's very powerful, and doesn't require us to buy some piece of peecee hardware like Ultra 2.

That's as good as it gets for Motion. Otherwise I'd suggest Ultimatte for FCP or Keylight which comes with AfterEffects or Shake. If you're doing a lot of greenscreen you'll have a better time with one of those. Motion is very capable as an occasional green screen compositor, but it can't fully compete with the control you have in a dedicated app.

Groovy. Thanks for the suggestions! Of course, I'm not the money man, so it depends on what will be the best ballance between price and quality. I'm checking out your suggestions right now....

the dvMatte plug-in for After Effects is also very good, better than Keylight for DV footage in my experiments.

The dvMatte plug-in is optimized for DV color (4:1:1) and handles the edges much easier than others IF YOU'RE USING DV.

Or you could run out and buy one of those new fangled Intel-Macs, and then get Ultra 2. That way you can run that Windows program and FCP on the same computer. Of course, you'd have to wait for the new Power Macs to come out first....

I just purchased dv matte blast for motion and it is unbelieably good and easy to use. I'm using it on HDV footage too!

Try the demo on thier site, that will tell you if it will work for your needs.

Am I missing something here? You seemed to reply to your own request with a solution like you were a seperate person. A little wierd ...:S

You could try this little app for $60
It does Vector Keying as a QuickTime plugin.
