Motion Crashing in 10.4.3

The problem is caused by installing 10.4.3, regardless of whether you are running Motion 2.0 or 2.01, if you have a Decklink card set to "Video Desktop" On.

The temporary solution is to turn off video desktop on you Decklink card. Apple will fix the problem in the OS in a future OS X release and are fully aware of the problem. Indeed, they've been working very hard since I pointed it out to them to come to a solution, and I must add that the cooperation of those on this forum has been excellent in finding a solution.

I'm now back up and running in Motion, and can finish my current project.

So the problem with this Motion update only affects those with the decklink card?
I got scared after reading your posts and haven't made the plunge. Any problems with the AJA I/O?
Thanks!

The IO doesn't have a video desktop feature, so should not be effected in any way.

Thanks for the information, Graeme!
It's important to note that this doesn't just solve the problems I was having with Motion, but it also solves a nasty behavior in After Effects, where OpenGL previews of 3D shadows gave an error message. In case it helps...
I am back to speed with both Motion and AE :) I thought it was going to take weeks to solve this!
All the best,
Adolfo

Yes, I think there is fundamentally something that disagrees with having the Blackmagic video desktop set to 'on' and the smooth running of the G5. Interestingly this is a solution that helped me to resolve another issue which I posted on the Blackmagic forum earlier on this week.

A bit of pain, but atleast there's a temporary workaround. Hope it gets resolved soon.

-- do you find this is applicable to the Blackmagic SD cards as well? I have a DL Extreme and have noticed some crashing...however it seems from the other posts that maybe it's just the HD cards?
