SMK Subscription ? why bother?
on Apr 13, 2015 at 8:51:14 am

Hi,

i have a smoke on mac from 2010 - paid about $15,000 for it than and kept on paying the subscription every year..
This Year, I was trying to understand what do I get for my subscription but it seems like it is a waist of money.

Does anyone knows what are the benefits for paying the subscription?

Thanks

Yoav

Yes, instead of paying $5000 for the 2016 upgrade you are getting it for $1000
But if you decide to to a sabbatical and get back to the industry in 2017 you do not have to upgrade from your 7 year old system which might be almost as much as a new one , no , you also pay just $1000.

I can understand people who paid for those systems when they had the price tag of a nice Ducati bike are pissed a bit , but for everyone else its a blessing.
I assume you are referring to the price structure and not the new features...

Yes, I have a Triumph Scrambler and wouldn't mind another one...
Regarding the price structure.. pretty angry with Autodesk.. also, there is no mention anywhere (i tried to find out) about smoke 2016..
another interesting thing, not to be quoted, I spoke to an Autodesk rep directly and he said that they are stuck with smoke for mac and it might not get any upgrade or a serious work done on it..
To sum it up, I feel like Autodesk does not really care about the smoke users..

Philippe mentioned on the logik group that Smoke is no longer being released in sync with Flame, and that an official announcement about Smoke 2016 would be made in due time.

Personally, I'm looking for an update at IBC.
