Vector formats in Smoke
on Mar 10, 2015 at 12:28:04 pm

Hi guys,

I am tasked with some motion graphics and i kinda want to stick to Smoke and not use AfterFX.
Is there a way to work with .ai or .svg or .eps in Smoke 2015 now ?
I read something about the Action module has an importer but i can not find the formats

kind regards
Sascha

as far as i am aware that functionality only exists in flame using the 3d shape tool, which im pretty sure is flame only, u will be able to tell if you ad an action node then drag an import node from the action node bin and see if SVG is available

Hey Sascha

the SVG importer is only available with Flame and not Smoke.

The only suggestion I can give is convert the vector data to photoshop PSD files and import them as layers to animate in Smoke.

As an extra tip, if you double the size of the PSD prior to importing into Smoke, it will give you the extra bit of resolution for rescaling etc.

Hope this helps.

Grant

All right guys, that's what I thought...
Of course that will get my some looks from the MoGraph teams but whatever, Smoke has other qualities :)

i think you can in a round about way, convert the ai file into an fbx in max or somesuch app. Its not pretty and you'll have to make up the fill using extrude.
