NEW Autodesk Smoke 2015 Video - Creating a Blooming Light Pass in Action

Hi All,

I hope that you had a great weekend!

I have posted a video showing how to create a light pass in Action.

Instead of flat passes and masks, you'll learn how to use the lights in combination with the Blooming node in Action to create this effect pretty fast!

The other big benefit with the Blooming node is the amount of customisation you can do.

You can check this out on the Smoke Learning Channel - http://www.youtube.com/Smokehowtos

Or you can download the videos via iTunes - https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/smoke-learning-channel/id552051408?mt=2

Have a great week!

Just watched this video, and it will be very helpful. I had one question. On the loop you played at the end, it wasn't actually moving the texture, it was repeating it left to right, so it had a very bumpy feel to it. Why is it repeating the texture and not moving the texture with the light? and is there a way to make the texture move with the light so that you don't have this bumpy feel? And will that issue only happen when you use a custom texture? You never moved the light with the glint node, so I don't know if it did the same thing there or if it was only with the painted texture. Thanks again for the videos, as a self taught editor these are very helpful. Keep em coming!

Hi Daniel,

The highlight is not shining through the texture. It is using the texture as blown out highlight for the light pass.

If we talk about in camera lens highlights and bokehs, you can use different lenses to change the pattern displayed in bright areas. The pattern is repeated.

The same happens with the glint texture without a custom pattern. At the beginning of the video, I did look the pass with the glint texture and than played the second result with the custom texture. I use actually see me switch the clips in the player reel.

To smooth off the highlights, you could play with the light spread and fall off or even adjust the texture controls soften the outer edge of the light.

As for a texture shining through the light, that might be a bit tricky but I think it could possible with a lens texture or perhaps a few mattes.

Hope this helps!

Regards
Grant
