Animate Input switches .. possible ?
on Feb 12, 2014 at 1:52:25 pm

Hi guys..

I am trying to limit my render times on 4k projects and I figured out a Blend node does not need any computation time when its inputs are disabled.

Because I am building very classic node trees, this would really be easy to animate the on when I need the upper tree and turn em off when I dont.

Footage.......Footage
FX...............FX
FX...............FX
FX...............FX
BLEND......BLEND.......Output

Is there a way to animate the Inputs activity od do I need to do this by limiting the source footage in time ?

What version are you working in? Mac or Linux? In 2014 Linux you can use the MUX node, which acts as a switcher that you can keyframe the inputs.

In 2013 MAC you can use a Matchbox node which also has a switcher effect you can load.

Hi Brian, thanks for you post.
But I was not looking for a way to switch inputs, I was looking for a way to disable the Blend node so it does not compute the upstream tree.
I tested the switcher and its handy, but it doesnt change the render time.
The Input Index is the one i can animate, right ?
If i could animate the input selector it would work though..

Hi,

Unfortunately, it is not possible to animate inputs on and off.

The switcher suggestion might work but not ideal.

I'll put forward a suggestion to rather optimise the processing pipeline rather than disable inputs.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Regards
Grant

Oh no...if Grant is out of ideas, we are doomed :)

Thanks...the easiest solution would be to just link it to the Transparency slider.
When its 0 it could automatically disable the upstream tree.
As soon as it blends the slightest bit it could start.
Thats how i know it from Fusion..

I actually moved most of the comp from 2D to 3D today and instead of 2 hours it renders 15 min.
Aaaaaaaand ACTION !
