Smoke 2013 storyboard view?
on Jan 20, 2014 at 1:36:20 pm

Hi all,
I am learning Smoke 2013. I saw that in Smoke 2012, we have a kind of Storyboard view inside Record area layout that I think very interesting as in this tutorial video:

But I can not find this layout anywhere in Smoke 2013. Did they remove this kind of layout or just replace it with something else?
Thanks in advance.

It was removed in 2013.

Actually, we do have a matching functionality in Smoke 2013 Ext 1.

It is called the thumbnail view. You can switch to the thumbnail view to view your media in the media library and drag and drop editing is supported.

I have a question about the thumbnail view...
I'd really like to be able to arrange my clips in this view but I can't seem to figure out how to zoom/pan?
I have a bunch of clips - 60+ and while I can lay them out I end up with a packed grid of nodes...I can't make more room to use as a storyboarding workspace.
is this possible?
I'm coming from a Houdini background so I'm used to having an infinite workspace...it's a little painful to have no extra space...

The source areas or thumbnail view is not limitless. You can not pan/zoom. The thumbnail view is just a gallery view of your folder or library.

thanks...at least I'm not doing anything wrong :)
what would you recommend for working with a large number of clips?
the only thing I can think of is to try to break them down into smaller folders within the library based on some arbitrary notion of where they might fit into the larger edit...
