Ignore Light in Action

Hey there folks, the shop I work for has recently switched over to Smoke 2013. Since I'm still learning you may see many more posts in the near future.

Question, I have a composite made in action using a couple lights, 3D text, background and a basic camera move. I have placed a pre-rendered, (out of After Effects) partical quicktime that I'm using as a foreground overlay. How do I tell that partical overlay to ignore the lights in the scene?

I have placed it within the action because I want the partical overlay to have the same camera move as the rest of the Action composite.

Use Shift+L to switch to Light Link mode. Then draw a connection between the light and the surfaces you want the light to affect. This is a thin blue line. To have a light not affect a surface, hold Opt and then draw the connection. This will be a thin red line.

Press Shift+M to switch back to move/select mode when done.

You're welcome.

Just a heads up, if you're in a crunch and you need help/guidance then check out the Smoke forum on the Area as well. It's the official forum and there are more Smoke users who pop in there and can help.

I'm not saying this to diss the Cow, I love the Cow and owe it an awful lot, just pointing out another resource for you to tap into.

Best,
Sandeep.

Thanks again Sandeep!

The Autodesk Area is my new home away from home. And for anyone else out there who's reading this thread The Smoke Learning Channel is a great resource too. Grant's tutorials are very clear and informative.

I've been grazing these pastures for about twelve years now and it has bailed me out more times than I can remember. Especially with the Avid and After Effects forums.

Sandeep, I just looked at your Autodesk Smoke Learning Resources posting on Area and I will share those links with the rest of my team.

A couple of weeks ago we had Quinn with Autodesk here at my shop and he was very helpful too.

Thank you.
