GFX card configurations

On my Resolve system I have a Radeon HD 5770 and a Quadro 4000.

Currently the 5770 is running 2 monitors, while the Quadro has nothing attached. AFAIK this is the setup that is ideal for Resolve.

I've read that the best system for Smoke is to have just a Quadro 4000. From what I've heard Smoke won't see a secondary GPU.

Can this setup be adapted to Smoke? Can Smoke be set to render on the 4000 while the 5770 does GUI? Or does Smoke need to share the GUI with rendering? I'd consider 2 4000s but it might require me to cannibalize another Resolve system built this way.

Smoke will only use the main graphics card for the system. That which is driving the UI.

OK - so a more ideal config would be to have 2 Quadro 4000s - one for the UI & Smoke, the other for Resolve (when it's running)?

Hi

Im quite late here.

I also know that smoke uses only 1 gpu, but in my MBP 17" it doesn't seems so

I had stopped the auto graphic switching forcing the smoke on AMD 6750M only

but this is what happens when i render

Here is the AGPM log on console. I have to enable logcontrol to get this. this console log is generated while a simple action stup is being rendered

07/10/12 4:00:17.000 PM kernel: AGPM: GPU = IGPU G-state set to 5 from 4, ControlID = 16

07/10/12 4:00:23.000 PM kernel: AGPM: GPU = GFX0 G-state set to 0 from 1, ControlID = 17

For me it suggests both GPUs are being used. Though GPU switching is disabled

And they are not utilizing at full power,

Full power as per the plist file is
Max power state =8 for gfx0

AND 15 For IGPU

Any suggestions? what actually is happening

thnx

SAMEER S.
