Hi

Can you be more specific about deliverables?

The Smoke Learning Channel covers exporting in the Getting Started series but what exactly are you after?

Grant

What you have asked for is a massively broad topic.

At the end of the day, you would be working at a certain resolution. You would than go ahead a reformat that for your deliverable and that is where the generalisation comes in. SD is not too tough because we are talking about PAL/NTSC, field dominance, pulldown and 4:3 or 16:9.

HD is much more complex with 1080i or 1080p, 720p, progressive, interlaced etc.

The best course of action is to have a list of specifics and we might be able to help because every broadcaster around the world has different requirements.

Hi Grant,

I just need one example.
just want to know the process/workflow.
( mainly the dumping process to tape.)

For example, hd 1080 project, after finishing the work, I want to deliver it in tape to the client.

*very useful tutorials of yours in smoke channel.
thank you very much

regards,
Sijo

Ah ok....

Well, this should be easy to explain in this post.

You need to ensure that your system is configured in the setup application to work with a specific VTR. You can find the setup app in the Smoke Utilities folder. Choose the VTR option and check the VTR you want to output to. Don't have Smoke running the same time you change settings in the setup menu.

So firstly in Smoke, I would ensure that the timecode matches the blacked tape you want to edit/write to. To change the timecode of the clip, select the sequence and choose reformat. Here you can enable the change timecode option and change the timecode.

Once all the timecode matches up, select the sequence clip and go to the file menu, choose Output to VTR.

This will launch the output window.

You need to ensure that all your external connections are correctly set up. In other words, ensure you have RS422 control for the VTR as well as the correct sync going into Smoke as well as the VTR.

You should be able to choose what you are inserting (video/audio/both). If all is correct, you should be able to output to the VTR.

Hope this is helpful.

Regards
Grant
