Scarlet R3D 4k Full Debayer issue.

Scarlet R3D 4k Full Debayer issue.

Hey all,

So I have some 4k R3D scarlet footage and if I set the debayer settings to full it produces this screenshot.



But if I set it up at half debayer the image is fine. What could be causing this? The system does not have a redrocket. Ideally I would like to color the footage at 4k to then output it in 2k or 1080p.

This could very well be down to your graphics card.

What are your system specifications?

Here are my specs:

8-core Xeon
16gb Ram
4gb gtx680

I know the gtx680 isnt technically supported but I've worked on larger files with it like F65 and Epic 5k with no issues, so this 4k thing is odd to me.

Edit: If I enter the pre-processing pane for a clip, I can see the 4k image just fine.

hmmm.

Select the source node in CFX and try expanding its history.

This will make all the pre-processing settings available and might solve the image issue.

Ok so I have to set everything to 16bfp including the 4k 10bit R3Ds and the sequences and the issue goes away. Smoke becomes unusable at that point though, it slows down to a snail's pace and eventually crashes.

But Epic 5k is fine... go figure.

Do you know of a decent file format to transcode to that could somewhat preserve the extra info in the R3Ds, something like DPX? I usually work with Arriscans so the RED footage is new to me. I could probably get my hands on a Redrocket for the time of the transcode.

For anyone experiencing a similar issue:

It turned out to be faulty R3D files. The DIT did not offload the mags via R3D Data Manager (which has error detection and correction for the clips on the mags). Some errors got through during the transfers that smoke did not particularly like though the files appeared fine. We were lucky that we own our own Red Mags and that they had not been formatted. We managed to retransfer the media with R3D Data Manager and used a full checksum to ensure the data was intact at the time of the transfer.

All is well, but behind schedule.
