VERY new to Smoke; really trying to do something here that I'm not quite prepared for. I got an archive from another facility. They archived the project but didn't send the actual media until later. I can't seem to find an obvious way to get the sequence to relink to the dpx files. I'd appreciate a quick "how-to" even in the form of a link to a tutorial. The wiki manual is not very helpful unless I'm searching incorrectly.
Being dropped in the deep end is never fun but hopefully things always work out.
With regards to the situation you have had. When you restored the archive, the segments in the sequence never forget their original file paths. Even if they are separated from their original media. So when you opened the archive and restored, your clips were black or checkerboard.
The Unlink function is essentially unlinking the segment from its original metadata and not just media. So when you get the unlinked message, Smoke is now expecting you to point it to a new location/file to match and link with. Hence the workflow.
