Please Help, i downloaded Autodesk Smoke 2013 so i can try it out and edited a 1hour 20 mins project that i cant export. the status changes from Busy to waiting to busy again. i just cant get my head around this. beet rendering an hour video for 7 hours it keeps completing and restarting again.
Open Safari and go to http://localhost/backburner.
Log in as backburner / backburner and select your computer in the manager list (top left).
A list of recent jobs should appear in the main table on the page. Double click your export job and look at the "Last task error" field. Post the error message there.
Also, if the page lists any other jobs that are stuck in "waiting" and that you don't need right now, delete them (from the "Action" menu).
i tried restarting and all and didn't go through, i am still waiting for it to export now. ILL TRY THAT AND GET BACK TO YOU, Does smoke work well for you? do you actually create projects from start to finish successfully? because i have been learning for 2.5 years and always doesent do things right there is alway something going wrong at output. please advise so i can forget about it...... regards.
I've been using Smoke since Jan 2012 (old version), and have just recently started using the new version. yes, I successfully finish and deliver broadcast projects all the time - laying off to HDCAM-SR & DigiBeta tape, exporting ProRes quick times, etc...
It can be tricky to get it set up properly (or fixed, especially if the BackBurner module gets hosed) - but it's usually rock solid for me. But I'm also very careful about what other things I install, and I stick to the AD certified versions of all software & hardware.
I don't know why the Backburner gets tripped up, but here's a good write up on how to fix it. It gets pretty involved...
one thing you have to remember is that Smoke is not just another Mac application - it's a bunch of Linux apps in a powerful VFX pipeline that have been stitched together and ported over to run on a single Mac.
I know that doesn't help when you just want the damn thing to work, but that's the nature of the beast, so to speak...
Anyway - here's the Backburner Fixer thread from the Autodesk forums:
Do you get a "permission denied" error when trying to open the Web page?
If so, type Backburner with a capital B : http://localhost/Backburner
I don't work on large projects, only small test projects. And I do get failed exports from time to time, but a computer restart and then deleting and re-exporting seems to do the trick. There was one time where I had to flush renders, re-render my sequence and then export to get it working.
Backburner can be sensitive to network issues at times. Check out the PDF and KB article mentioned in this AREA forum post for tips & tricks on how to fix Backburner issues. http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-smoke/smoke-2013/backburner-issues-...
