Working with R3D

Hey Everyone,

I have .R3D 5K footage that I need to conform and Color Correct in Smoke 2013. I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice as to a good workflow to do this. The end spot will be at 1920x1080. My system isn't strong enough to work with the footage at it's native 5k resolution, but on a couple of the shots I need to do extreme blowups (up to 200%).

Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks,
Aaron

Import your clips.. use the needed Debayer settings, I imagine Half.
Edit clips on to an HD timeline, the 2K clips will recieve a resize to put them in to 1080.

On the occasion where you need to use the full res of a clip either on the TL or in CFX, you can select the clip and use the Pre-processing settings. This will allow you to rest the clip back to its full debayer.

In CFX there is an Explode History button to do that.

In the post below, Grant Jay did a great tutorial in working with and resizing Red inside Smoke.
