I tried to work on smoke at home. I thought it´s easy to used it with vpn active but it failed.
Did anybody run it successfully. Our Nuke License is working, so it won't be the connection.

Thanks a lot for your advices.

Best regards

Hi Swen.

We do not officially support or recommend connecting to the license server via VPN, as the lic server needs a very reliable connection and even small drops in the VPN connection can cause the license to fail.

The recommended way is to use the license borrowing feature in Smoke. This allows you to take one of the "seats" on your license server and temporarily turn it into a local license on your Mac.

Here's how:

1. Open Smoke and click "About Smoke" from the "Autodesk Smoke" menu.
2. Click "Product Information". A new window will open with your license details.
3. Click "Borrow License". You'll get a calendar window where you can pick the date the license will be automatically returned to the server.
4. Click "Borrow License". One of the seats on the server will be checked out and become a local license on your Mac.
5. When you open Smoke at home, you'll get a pop-up reminding you of when the borrowed license will expire.
When you're back in the office, you can return the borrowed license either from the same menu, or by simply allowing the borrow time to expire.

If you do want to try the VPN approach, please make sure ports 2080 and 27000 to 27009 are not blocked by your firewall or by your VPN server.

Regards,
Robert.

Thank you Robert for your detailed answer.
I will follow your instruction´s. Hopefully it´ll work.

But anyway. As a 4 times dad (Daughters name is Martha) VPN is normally not disturbing part for working @ home.

Best regards.
Swen

Hi Swen.

I have created a KB article with detailed instructions on how to borrow licenses, in case you can't get VPN to work:
http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=21195798&l...

Best regards,
Robert.
