Backburner Trouble with Audio
on Feb 2, 2013 at 3:33:48 pm

The Problem:
I cannot seem to export my timeline as a final render. Every time I try there is an audio mixdown progress bar then the names of my labrolls flash by quickly at the bottom of the window. No file is created either (on the odd time it does create a file it is only one shot). I don't get what I am doing wrong as I have exported before. The entire timeline is rendered within smoke but I can't do an export.

Things I've done differently in this project:
- Multiple video tracks.
- An audio Track.
- the entire sequence is rendered within smoke.

UPDATE 1 ( 2Feb2013 5PM):

I have done some research which lead me to check:

- the service monitor
backburner had a network connection issue = SOLVED (my network card was not setup properly, BB now starts)

- backburner Log

2013/02/02 16:46:51 ERR Job 'Export - TRAILER FOR COLOR_SOUND - BON IVER.Exported.01-LET (16.45.11)' (#$$??$$##) failed for MGMD-Mac-Pro.local

- //localhost/backburner/
Stuck in "waiting" status

- Smoke Message
"Job was submitted but is waiting for backburner server MGMD-Mac-Pro.local to start" (It is sarted in the service monitor)

I did a reinstall of Smoke. Did not help.

UPDATE 2 ( 2Feb2013 510PM):

Other projects seem to render just fine...

How can I salvage my current project which needs to be delivered soon?

Thanks
Marti

I took the audio out and it Renders perfect.
However I tried Stereo AIF MP3 and WAVE files of the same mixdown and none of them will render.

Any suggestions?

In the tools tab there is an Audio mixdown function. Try that and see if your result clip will export with audio.

Open http://localhost/backburner

Login backburner
Pass backburner

Find the bad "waiting" jobs ,select themand change the Action button to Delete.
That will help a smoke to not try and complete the old jobs

Thanks for your reply Brian. It seems that any audio makes the render fail (waiting status in BB) no matter the format.

For now I will render the video portion from smoke and remux the audio track as an extra step outside smoke!

I know you said that new projects worked...but just in case, you carry this....

1- Quit your Smoke and open Smoke Setup.
2- In the general menu, choose “manual edit”
3- In the “BACKBURNER CONFIGURATION”, remove the “#” before this line “BackburnerPreConfigManagerHostname”
4- Click “OK”
5- Quit Smoke Setup and restart your Smoke.

It definitely renders when I remove the # from this line. However when I play it back in an outside player like QT or VLC the audio is fine to start with, but when I pause it and play it again the sound doubles and offsets. Every time I pause it seems to add another audio layer offset.

This happens on any computer.

I managed to find a decent workaround that involves remuxing the streams with ffmpeg. It sucks to have an extra step but it works! Thankfully I was not sound editing in Smoke and had a premixed track!

Might try a different audio codec on export and see if it still plays odd.

I tried all the possible configs that I could think of. Not to worry though I will be able to work around it for the time being!
