Sorry, if this question already had been asked.
Before I install the 2013 version, I wanted to make sure, that I can continue to use 2012 version. Can I have a different managed drive for either version?

I heard second hand that it's 'causing problems. Hopefully one of the good folks from Autodesk will chime in as evaluating it at home is one thing, but eval. on my 2012 sys is another. I'll really want to see how it runs on a tricked out MP, my mid-level MP and a mid-level iMac.

Jake,
Smoke 2013 is in pre-release form; it's got it's issues, and to play it safe, what you probably want to do it partition your Mac HD with a dedicated partition for Smoke 2012 and one for the Pre-Release.
That way, you don't mess up your working copy of Smoke.

Makes sense?

Thanks!

Thank you for the quick response. Yes, it makes sense. I'll use second partition.

Autodesk’s Robert Adam provides the fix for restoring your 2012 Version of Smoke when you run into issues after installing Smoke 2013.
Smoke’s background services are shared by all versions, so when you install 2013, it upgrades your 2012.1 services to 2013, which can create problems with 2012, given that the trial is still beta software and we’re still working on fixing its bugs.
here’s the solution to get your 2012 back in a working state. This solution preserves your 2012 clips and projects:
1. Use the uninstaller app to uninstall 2013.
2. Open the Terminal app from Applications > Utilities
3. Type the following two commands: (you’ll be asked to enter your password after you type the first command)
sudo find /usr/discreet -name “current” -exec rm -rfv {} ;
sudo find /usr/discreet -name “2013.1.alpha6” -exec rm -rfv {} ;
4. Reinstall 2012, or 2012.1
Hope this helps,
Regards,
Robert.
