second hand linux smoke 2011 system is its worth a purchase?
on Oct 23, 2013 at 4:43:18 pm

Hi everyone,

This is my first time posting here, hope someone can help me with a few questions, I'm thinking of buying a Linux smoke 2011 system, I'd love to hear from someone experienced with this system,

Basically am I wasting my money? as it seems that Autodesk has stop using smoke on linux this system is going for about $4000 hardware and all.

Will the linux smoke 2011 run red r3d 4k files?

All the best
Norman Walshe

I would not buy it. For $4000 you can buy 2013 Smoke for Mac with more features.

Personally, I wouldn't buy it. Like Brian said, Smoke on Mac will have better features.

Also, I feel you need a compelling reason to be on Linux these days. The extra hassle of running a Linux box should be offset by features, or speed you cant get on the Mac. So, if it was a 2011 Flame I would say go for it.

Thanks Moody,
I think If I'm honest with myself, I'm trying to get as close to a flame system as I possibly can with out change to mac and forking out a fortune. its probably not a good option to go with a linux system not the most user friendly system.

I think the jury's out stay away from smoke linux :-)
