smoke 2009 VTR archives

Autodesk has confirmed that smoke 2012 and 2013 will not restore a VTR archive from smoke 2009.

Does anyone know how to read the digital audio that's on that archive tape? With that, I can marry the audio & video clips back together.

The suggested workaround is to install 2009, restore the archives, and then re-install the current versions. Scary stuff, since the current workstation is very different than the workstation that ran 2009. No, we do not have the old workstation (it died a horrible death).

Any other suggestions?
Theories and comments are also welcome!

thanks

Hi Marino.

I wonder who told you that.
Unless there's a bug I don't know about, Smoke 2012/2013 should read archives created in version 2009.
Have you tried restoring and got errors?

Regards,
Robert.

Autodesk Support says VTR archives from 2009 will not open in 2012/2013. Their search revealed a known bug (as they put it).

There's a clip we really want, and I can see it on the tape, but the audio is that digital audio dump. If we cannot get the archive restored, OK, but we would really like that one clip.

Happy to help, Marino!

For anyone else reading this:

The issue was related to archive header compression. Marino's archive was created with HDCAM compression, but his Smoke was set to read non-compressed VTR archives.

The solution was to enable the ClipMgtDevice HDCAM keyword in the application's init.cfg file and to select "HDCAM" as the archive device in Smoke's archiving module.
