So, I've begun the process of starting my new projects in Smoke 2013. I'm archiving off some older projects in 2012, and it's taking an extraordinary amount of time to complete the archive. Like, 2 days so far. This particular project is only about 350 GB. Some of it is linked over via wiretap, and some of those links have been broken as my IP address was changed recently. So there are issues.
But – should it be taking this long to archive? Is there a better way to do this? I have set it up to do Project - Shared archiving. Is that the problem?
You should jsut be using Project and not Project Sharing.
Project Sharing will archive the media from the other projects as well as the current.
However, when you import something into your current project and use it in a timeline, it is already part of your project. So you do not need to archive any shared media.
It is a waste of time and space.
Secondly, if material is over wiretap than Smoke is transcoding material into the archive but the timing should not be significantly impacted.
As for the IP address changing, it is possible that Smoke might be timing out over the network causing these issues. I cannot verify that for sure but if you contact Autodesk Support they might be able to help.
Thanks for the insight, Grant. I'll will do the Project archive from now on.
The rest of my projects are archiving just fine now. The problem project took about 3 days to archive. Looking forward to your training videos for Smoke 2013.
