I'm baffled by this - So I have a project that soft links to DPX sources. Through 2 days of conform and finish, everything has linked just fine. Nothing has changed on my system. Now, a week later, I launch the project, and my master sequence is sluggish, and many of the clips are showing the checkerboard. I have tried importing them individually again, just to see if they are recognized, and yes, they will load fine. So, has anyone seen this before? I have tried restarting the system, restarting Wiretap, and nothing changes. Frustrating.

Did any of your network setting change? IP address, host name?

As far as I know – no. I was reading a post about static IP addresses, and was wondering if that might be the source of the problem. Mine appears to be a static IP, though.

UPDATE - I just checked with IT, and yes, it appears the IP address has been moved around. The router connections were changed over the weekend.

Is there anything I can do? Some media connects just fine; others, not so much.

That's a pain when they change things without telling you.

I think if you where to unlink your clips, find them again in the gateway and perform a relink to the new location through filename than it should update to the new path.

Sorry, you didn't say whether it was Smoke 2012 or Smoke 2013 PR5 but that is the general way to fix the issue.

Got it. This is for Smoke 2012, btw.
I began the relink process yesterday, and it appears to be working (for almost all clips).

So does this issue go away in 2013? I just loaded PR5 onto another drive to begin the process of learning Smoke 2013. I've been a bit hesitant at this point, but it's probably time to start diving in.

Thanks!

Hi Nick

Some of the old workflow issues go away and things happen more predictably on a basic level.

What I will say is that if you have been using Smoke previously I still suggest that you go through the getting started training videos again as there is so much that has changed and the challenge for you will be muscle memory.

All the training videos are free on the Smoke Learning Channel. You have the choice to watch directly from YouTube or download them via iTunes.

Good luck!

Hi Nick,

Reconforming in Smoke 2013 has been rewritten from the ground up.

You would still need to unlink the old references to the DPX, hence the checkerboard thumbnails.

Once that this done, you switch to the conform menu and there will be an event list telling you want is unlinked. Much more visual than 2012 was when it cam to unlinked clips in the sequence.

All you do, is click set directory, navigate to the directory or root director with media in subdirectories and press SET.

In the conform event list it will show you that it has found the matches for the files. You can set the criteria to be based on filename, tape name or timecode. Whatever is the matching criteria.

When the match is found, right-click and choose to link to matching sources and that should do it.

It should give you a much more elegant and visual way of solving issues like this.

Grant
