backburner status: item stuck on waiting
on Aug 10, 2012 at 9:57:01 pm

I am trying to export. The status of the clip is stuck on waiting.
What is is waiting for and how do I get it to GO?

I have tried various volumes, clips, formats.. no avail...

Hi Tom.
Export is known to be broken in pre1.
Please download and install preview 2. Export is much more stable and functional in pre2.
Note that, unfortunately, you won't be able to upgrade your project from pre1 to pre2.

Robert.

understood. But export seemed to work fine recently in PR1.
once PR2 was installed, PR1 can not export.

I have installed PR2. I am running PR1 because PR2.. well, let's say I am waiting for PR3.

Hi Tom.

So you have both PR1 and 2 installed and are trying to export from PR1, right?
In this case, since background services are shared between all versions of Smoke, your PR1 software is using the pr2 versions of Backburner, Wiretap, Stone+Wire services.

If you want to go back to a clean PR1 install, you would have to uninstall PR2 and reinstall PR1, but note that export is still more stable in PR2 than in 1.
Let's take a look at the error message that Backburner throws out.

1. go to http://localhost/backburner
2. Log in with the username backburner and password backburner
3. Select your Mac in the Manager drop down list at the top left. The main table on the page will display the list of recent BB jobs.
4. Double-click the job that's stuck on "waiting". You'll see a page with the job details, including the latest error message.

Let me know what that error message is.

Robert.

here ya go:

"new-host-2 [error] 2688992576 transcoderMediaProvider.C:312 08/16/12:00:34:57.099 Cannot get type of clip IFFFS-1:/stonefs/SFI_BN_beta/_Export_120816_003320_1/H_16777343_S_1345091600_U_631181/hires: Project SFI_BN_beta not found
[error] 2688992576 tr""

would it be best to de-install older versions.
The latest and greatest seems to be very solid.

Hi.

Looks like it can't find your project. that means that Wiretap server is probably not responding.
Without deleting the export job, please open the Service Monitor app from the Applications > Autodesk > Smoke Common Utilities folder and restart the Wiretap Server.
Then back in the Backburner Monitor web page, select the stalled job in the table, and from the "Action" button select "Activate".

Robert.

looks like the WT server still doesn't work.
I would start by cleaning up the Smoke versions, since you're now using Smoke Pre1 with Pre2 services. You won't lose any projects doing this.

1. Run the Smoke uninstaller and remove both pre1 and pre2.
2. Restart your Mac.
3. Reinstall only pre1.

Try the export job again, and if it fails, try restarting WT server as instructed above.
Another trick we've found to sometimes work is to hard commit an empty top layer on the timeline before exporting.

Please let me know if any of this worked.
Robert.
