crash with new projects
on Apr 24, 2012 at 10:25:40 pm

I've been working with the trial version of Smoke 2012 for the past week or so and things have been going pretty well. Until today...

For whatever reason, when I create a new project, Smoke crashes as soon as I try to work with any media that's been added to the edit desk. If I open an older project I have no problems with it.

I've uninstalled the software twice but I'm running into the same issue.

The error message I keep seeing in the Console is:

system_profiler[3290] : kCGErrorRangeCheck: On-demand launch of the Window Server is allowed for root user only.
Apr 24 17:11:56 : Tue Apr 24 17:11:56 FinalCut-Pro-2.local system_profiler[3290] : kCGErrorFailure: Set a breakpoint @ CGErrorBreakpoint() to catch errors as they are logged.

It sounds like a permissions issue, but it's odd that it cropped up all of a sudden. I tried repairing permissions but that didn't help.

Any advice?

Here are the details of the rest of my system:
Mac Pro 3,1 Dual Quad core 3 Ghz w/ 24 GB RAM
Mac OS X 10.6.8
Smoke for Mac 2012 Trial version
Kona 3, 9.0.3 driver
G-Speed XL 12 TB RAID with dual 4Gb/s fiber connection

UPDATE: I turned off the Apple Compressor Q Master Sharing (it auto enables on restart) and everything seems to work again. Hopefully that fixes it

Hi Matt.

That's a very good "gotcha"! I'll investigate this and open a bug if needed.

Regards,
Robert.
