NEW BLOG POST: Autodesk Smoke: Action – Part 7 - Focused Lighting & Animation
on Nov 4, 2011 at 10:31:01 am

Hi Everyone,

I have released a new video in the Action fundamentals series:

Autodesk Smoke: Action – Part 7 - Focused Lighting & Animation

This is video series on Autodesk Smoke's main 3D Compositor - Action.  Starting from the very beginning, we examine the theory and logic behind action and what it does.  An excellent starter for beginners and a great refresher for the pros!

in Part 7, we group our instanced nodes with an axis, we blend our photoshop layers, we focus lighting on specific objects and we start animating the circles of our design.

Thanks Grant for the another great tutorial. There is something what isn't clear for me. Are you able to make the same motion graphic elements in Smoke like in After Effects? I mean things like the fractal noise, particle, stroke (3D) etc. Or you have to make theese elements in different programs (like AE)?

Thanks
Gary

Hi Gary,

For texture generation, there is a basic fractal spark that comes with Smoke which is nothing fancy. You can certainly paint a texture. But there is also the flameFX STYLIZE option which can do infinite texture layering for unique effects.

Animated brush strokes can be done in the paint module but for the effects that trap code and particles can do, you would need to use another application to perform those effects and import the results into smoke to composite.

Grant
