alt+command F9, dragged UI elements around by mistake - how to reset?

Whilst banging away at hotkeys I accidentally bought up a red grid and dragged some of the UI buttons around. how do I reset them back? I tried resetting User preferences but the buttons dont move back...

Not 100% sure, but did you try and restart the application?

haha - worked :-) Tried everything except turning it off and on again. Thx.

This seems like a strange feature to have (being able to pull the UI apart but not keep the amendments). Is this for diagnostics perhaps rather than user functionality?

Kind of.. it's a secret. You can make custom UIs, but it's not easy and almost no one does it.
