Standard Conversion in Smoke on MAC

THis goes out to Moody and Grant,

Guys can oyu do a tutorial for Smoke on MAC on how to do standard conversion on a MAC ?

We get in 23.98 and need to goto 25 / 29.97 and 25 -> 29.97 and reverse

how do you do it ?

the 2 methods I use are

1. create a color source at the desired resolution,
drop this onto the record area, then drop your footage into this timeline, smoke will automatically add a timewarp to convert your footage to the desired framerate

2. from the edit desk select the timecode menu then Convert rate,
select the desired frame rate then select the clip

my preference is option 1 as you can play with blending in the timewarper , where option 2 is linear and has no controls

I generally use method one for framerate conversion like this.

Hi Craig,

I agree with Joel's number 1 method...

Mathematically going from 23.976 (24) to 25 or 29.97 is quite simple so this method should be fine.

Going from 25 to 29.97 might be a bit more tricky if there are fields involved which might involve some de-interlacing, timewarping and re-interlacing as not to get frames interlacing incorrectly. But If it's all progressive that method 1 should work more or less the same.

Give it a go and let us know how you get on.
