Dual RED Rocket support?

Can Smoke support two RED Rocket cards for work with the Epic camera or stereoscopic? Also what technology does smoke us for GPU processing... is it CUDA or openCL? Is there a keyboard command to minimize the Smoke window?

Davinci Resolve Mac 7.1:
Mac Pro 12-Core
24GB (six 4GB) memory
ATI Radeon HD 5770 and NVIDIA Quadro 4000
Blackmagic Decklink Extreme 3D+

Not sure on the RED Rocket.. it depends on if the gateway server can see both cards.

Smoke is written for Nvidia Cards which are CUDA.

Brian,

Does Smoke plan on supporting RED's Epic for stereoscopic work? I was told that it would take to RED Rocket cards just to playback Epic footage at full resolution. Also in a thread on here a user is comapring an AMD card vs the Quadro 4000. How is that posssible if Smoke just uses CUDA?

Here is what the wiki says....for Smoke 2012 SP1

RED Epic® Camera Support

This service pack is required to support the RED Epic camera.

RED Rocket Driver

The RED Rocket driver (1.3.5) included with the SP1 prevents the Creative Finishing application from using the RED Rocket to import any material other than EPIC material.

You must install the RED Rocket driver 1.4.6 when it is released from RED to be able to transcode non-EPIC footage using the RED Rocket. Until the release of that driver, you will only be able to read RED Epic footage.

There is no import issue if you do not use a RED Rocket.

Not sure about ATI. I know they had to make some allowances for MAC & ATI. But all the Linux systems are Nvidia, and Nvidia is recommended.

It's been reported in this forum that Autodesk supports the Radeon cards for GPU rendering. If this is true then does Autodesk both support CUDA and another GPU rendering technology?

Are you sure that Smoke is CUDA based. Due to supporting both Radeon and Quadro cards it seems that it's OpenCl or OpenGl based.what happens if you have a Quadruple 4000 and a Radeon 5780 in the same system?

Not 100% on the rendering.. but I believe it's only going to work with 1 video card. Having multiple cards won't improve rendering.

Andrae,

I don't know about supporting both the ATI & NVIDIA cards simultaneously, but OS-X is limited to 4 graphics cards maximum. I don't know if this changed with the release of Lion last week.

As for Smoke supporting dual RED Rocket cards, I would like to know this as well. Cubix's GPU-Xpander Desktop 2 can attach to Slot 2, and provide 4x additional PCIe 16-channel slots with 750W power supply and 1m data transfer cable.

Hey guys,
Smoke does not support multiple RedRocket cards, or multiple graphics cards.
Smoke uses OpenGL, but is not quite CUDA-optimized. The GenArts Sparks are, though, so they bring the advantages of CUDA in Smoke.
We support ATI and NVidia boards' GPUs.

Hope this helps,

Hi Marc-Andre,
I noticed that none of the ATI cards are listed as qualified or even recommended in the Hardware Compatibility list on Autodesk's Smoke web page. Can you let us know if there are any remaining issues. I hear and read about black frames rendering on various cards but ever know for sure what will work. Would also be really useful to know if any of the ATI cards outperform the Quadro 4000 and are FULLY supported as well.

Your clarification on these most sought after issues would be most useful and appreciated.

Thanks,
CG

I noticed there was a question asked at the beginning of this thread that was overlooked. Is there a hotkey for minimizing the SMoke interface? Sorry to redirect, but I cannot find the answer anywhere.
