What I'm trying to do is this.

1. I have a project with some smoke timelines with different completed edits, which are soft imported image seqs and audio.

2. I'd like to convert these smoke "timelines" to self contained clips, i.e. no fx/soft imports/cuts. New seperate clips with their own TC.

3. So these can then be exported as QT's and edited in FCP. An offline edit of the smoke generated clips if you will.

4. Then import the XML of FCP edit of these new clips and relink to the smoke clips from 2.

I've tried hard commit and made a clip from that.
I know how to change clip TC in smoke.
I did a test where I exported a "clip" from the library, edited in FCP, brought back the XML, but it wont relink, probably looking for the QT file.

Any ideas?

For those that are interested here's how I've managed to get it to work.

1. Exported a final timeline uncompressed and the re-imported the image sequence giving it unique timecode and a tape name.

2. Exported this new clip as a QT for FCP to edit. Smoke thankfully exports it with the TC and Tape Name embedded.

3. Imported the XML from FCP edit and it happily re-linked.

Thanks to Brian Mulligan for pointing me along the right lines.

Still love to know if you can turn a "timeline" clip into new unique clip with ability to change the metadata.

Like how can change/assign a tape name of an imported clip after importing?

best, edd
