NEW 4KAY STORY POST - Action: Lights & Shadows
I know last week's blog definitely got your attention with the edge rays but we are not done yet with what you can do using Smoke 2012 for Mac OS X.
I have posted a new video entry to The 4Kay Story - ACTION: Lights & Shadows
This week's entry focuses on new light types and shadow casting abilities that you can apply in the 3D compositing environment.
New light types give you more ways than ever to apply light to your scene.
Why is this so special?
Well aside from the creative potential of light manipulation, Autodesk R&D have streamlined the lighting systems so that they are compatible with the lighting in Autodesk 3DSMax and Autodesk Maya. So if you built a lighting rig in your favorite 2012 3D application you could export a 2012 FBX file and import it directly into Smoke and the lighting would be recreated. It's all about repurposing data. Besides, who wants to redo the same work over again???
We also explore the shadow casting in the Action 3D compositor. Now lights can cast shadows in 3D space that interact with both flat image layers and 3D geometry – and with options that let you keep Action as interactive as you need it to be.
