Hey guys

I can't import PRORES422 HQ MOV files to Smoke On MAC.. I have done some research and ruled out illegal characters in file names and the fact that WTG is up and running.

Please help

Thanks in advance

Hi Gilio,
normally, fcp must be installed on the mac to access the ProRes with smoke.
be careful, however, quicktime and fcp must be left before starting Smoke.

@ Rémi thx yeah man I have the latest version of FCP Studio installed, as it seems has no effect whether QT or FCP are running in conjunction with Smoke.

Make sure you are running SP5 or EXT 1 SP3.

There appears to be system specific issues with prores. It works great for some and not for others.

Are you on trial or retail version?

I think it's a limitation of the trial...I could never get Prores to work although different quicktime codecs worked fine.

If I remember correctly, something didn't get installed in the trial version...

Hi,

The gateway which gets installed with Smoke is unlicensed in the trial version. With the commercial version, Smoke and the gateway service are licensed and these formats become available to you.

Grant

Can you use the file I/O to import your QTs? Since that doesn't use gateway.

Hey Brian yeah I tried the I/O option but no glory its really to bad because we were testing Smoke on Mac on a project which absolutely requires a pro res conform from FCP XML.

I can get this right but only with uncompressed 8bit clips, that's no good for our workflow though as the transcodes & file sizes are retarded.

There's also a bug in the current version with ProRes import, every time I tried to import prores i got a General Software Error. Autodesk had me set the Wiretap Gateway slaves from 4 to 0 to fix it. They said it should be fixed in 2012. I didn't have this problem in ext.1 but since I moved to ext.1 sp3.

Sorry, was off in flameland for a couple of days and couldn't check.

/usr/discreet/wiretapgateway/cfg/wiretapgateway.cfg in case you haven't already found it, and at the end set NumLocalSlaves=0.

Or at least that's what support did for me and told me it was a known bug. YMMV. Good luck.

Thanks for the head-up. Won't upgrade then.

I had this problem just recently after updating my OS to 10.6.6. It was working just fine with 10.6.5. Autodesk has confirmed this so heads up!
