Hi

As far as Smoke Mac is concerned the Nvidia Quadro FX4800 is supported but the Quadro 4000 is not supported in the current release.

Grant

Hi grant. Thanks for your reply. So as it's not supported you would see no gains what so ever I assume. Possibly even a drop in performance ?

Hello,
I tried the trial version quadro 4000 with sp5 on OSX 10.5 and I can confirm that everything works perfectly.
Very responsive, No bug report.

Hi remi
Did you upgrde to that card ? If so did you notice much improvement from the card you had previously ?

Cheers

Stefan

Hi Stephan,
I tried "Smoke on Mac" very shortly with an ATI 3870, but this card was not recommended and I had a bug, especially in soft Fx.
No, I compared the reactivity with the version of Linux that I use professionally.

I have just tried the Quadro 4000 out on a new 12 core Mac Pro with OSX 10.6.6 and Smoke 2011 SP5.
But Smoke crashes seconds after startup with not much in the log.

I am curious to know if anyone else is running with SP5 and the 4000 ?

Hello Simon,
the SP5 works fine with the Quadro 4000 on 10.5.5, I believe that all is not validated on 10.5.6.

@ Rémi,

Thanks, 10.6.5 did the trick. Now it is running very well. Though the real test will be in production next week!

Stefan,

If you currently have an NVIDIA Quadro FX 4800 for Mac installed in your system I would say that you will see a minimal gain moving to a Quadro 4000 for Mac. If you are deciding on a new Quadro graphics card for a system that is currently using a consumer graphics solution than I would definitely recommend the Quadro 4000 over the Quadro FX 4800. The Quadro 4000 is cheaper, uses less power, and is based on newer technology.
