Soft and hard import?
on Aug 31, 2010 at 12:30:36 am

Can someone explain the difference?

I'm trying to import a clip, I have the "soft import full res" box checked, as I'd prefere to not create a duplicate. (which, from my understanding, is what hard import does)

I have that box checked, but Smoke is still taking a few minutes to import a single clip, says its creating proxies.

Is there a way to import something directly without loading it, a la how FCP works?

Just taking Smoke for a spin!

Thanks

When you created your project there was an option to create proxies. Go to the preferences menu and go into the project settings and turn proxies off and modify the project.

When you import again than the software will not generate proxies and the import will be instant.

Thanks Grant, figured it was a simple setting somewhere.

While on the topic of just getting started with Smoke, I've tried to install the exercise files and have been getting this error when I run the smoke_essentials_setup file

Any thoughts appreciated.

Hi,

From the message it looks like your Stone+Wire configuration is not setup correctly. Therefore the installer cannot install the media files in the right place.

Are you able to boot into smoke? Load media, create something?

This could have been incorrectly set during the install.

I suggest posting this on the Autodesk Area forums so more Autodesk people might be able to help you out with this.

Grant
